Really wanted to give these 5 stars because I love the fit, and I loved how they felt on trails. The tread made walking/jogging uphill and downhill easy. I used them almost daily over the summer. I am not sure what the average lifespan (tread intact) is of walking/running shoes that are worn almost daily, but I expected it to be more than five months, as my other boots hold up for years. My ten-year-old hiking boots still have tread that looks almost new, so I am disappointed that the tread of these Salewas (which is a great brand and not cheap) has disappeared on parts of the sole. I can still wear them, but probably not for hiking. Another little issue has been the shoe laces loosening often. Of course you can buy different laces, but I have not found any that would fit.
